Grant Birchall (born 28 January 1988) is an Australian rules footballer who is a member of the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL), having been a player in the Hawthorn Football Club from 2006 until 2019, which included four premiership teams.
Birchall participated in his debut AFL Premiership in 2008, during which the Hawks beat reigning champions Geelong. Birchall lost the front half of his teeth when he was involved in a collision during the game.
Birchall’s nightmare continued through 2018 and he didn’t play any football due to a persistent PCL complaint. A late-season push to be available for the finals resulted in an adductor injury.
Out of contract at the end of 2019, Birchall was asked to shop himself around to see if he could get a better deal than what Hawthorn was willing to offer, Brisbane came up with a deal which he accepted.
At the end of the season, Birchall was 6th on the NAB AFL Rising Star, was awarded the Hawthorn’s Best First Year Award and was awarded his number 14 jumping jersey for 2007. The number 14 jumper was being vacated due to Harry Miller, who was removed from the team at the request of Hawthorn at the close of the 2006 season. Grant Birchall attended St Brendan Shaw College in Devonport, Tasmania.

Birchall was a standout player in his debut season in 2006 for the Hawthorn the Hawthorn, playing 16 games of the possible 22. The Tasmanian was selected at the number 14 , in 2005’s AFL Draft and made his debut wearing his number 35 jersey for Hawthorn’s first game for the year with Fremantle on the Aurora Stadium in his home state of Tasmania.
