The Blues finished in a more respectable 11th place, still well away from the play off spots, while Li started all 15 of their regular season games and scored 4 tries in what would prove to be his final season in Auckland.
Li’s rapid progress from high school’s star to the top echelon of the international rugby scene has continued to grow in 2014 as Auckland’s Super Rugby franchise, the Blues included Li in their larger training squad to prepare for 2014’s Super Rugby season. After some outstanding performances during pre-season, Li was named as a bench player for the Blues opening game against the Highlanders and was able to make the first time in his Super Rugby debut as a second-half substitute in a loss of 21-29 for his team. He was able to score 3 tries over the course of eight matches in his first year that was Super Rugby, at the age of 19. In 2015, there was a slight slowdown in his progression, appearing 7 times , but not crossing the try mark once. The Blues faced a difficult season. They won just three of 16 games , putting them in 14th place on the overall list.
