Philip Albert “Stompie” de Wet (born 14 February 1989 in Kuruman, South Africa) is an ex- South African rugby union player who played first-class rugby for the Leopards from 2011 to 2014. The position he played most often was flanker.
He has played first class rugby from 2011 onwards. His first appearance as a senior was in 2011, the Vodacom Cup competition; he began their game against Argentinean invitational team known as the Pampas XV in Potchefstroom. He also made two further starts in the competition, both in the match against Sharks XV in Durban and at home against Western Province, which also witnessed De Wet score his first goal at the provincial level when He scored within the 3rd minute play.
He was a part of the Leopards’ Currie Cup side for the 2011 Currie Cup Premier Division season and made his debut in the tournament on July 22 during their game with Western Province as his side lost 9-47. The following match was a success, seeing De Wet score two tries during their game in the match against their opponents, the Golden Lions, but it was not enough and they lost the game by 36-53. The Leopards won only one game during the season was their next game against the Pumas when they finished the season last and were then relegated in the 2012. Currie Cup First Division, with De Wet appearing in nine of their games.

When he was playing for Grey College in Bloemfontein, De Wet was selected for the Free State Cheetahs Under-16 side which participated in The Grant Khomo Week in 2005. Grant Khomo Week.
His last provincial appearance occurred after he moved from Potchefstroom for the Leopards. He was a part of the Leopards U21 teams that competed in the Under-21 2009 and 2010 Provincial Championships. He was also an established player for the Potchefstroom-based university team that is the NWU Pukke in the Varsity Cup competition. He played for them for four seasons from 2011 to 2014, making upwards of 20 appearances in the competition , and helping them to reach their first final of 5 seasons back in the year 2014 which they lost in a dramatic way in a dramatic way to UCT Ikey Tigers.
After three more appearances in the 2013 Vodacom Cup, De Wet scored seven tries in just six appearances in the 2012 Currie Cup First Division. He scored four of those in one match, a 53–28 victory over the Border Bulldogs in Potchefstroom. Two tries in eight appearances followed in the 2013 Currie Cup First Division (both those tries coming in their match against the Falcons) and he was also included in their squad for the 2014 Currie Cup qualification tournament.
