Steven John Payne (born August 16 1958) is an Canadian professional left winger in ice hockey playing for the Minnesota North Stars of the NHL. He played the entirety of his NHL career in Minnesota but was forced to retire due to numerous cervical spine injuries.

Payne has also been a part of the non-profit organization, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing as the Founder/Director of”the “Battle at Boxwood”, an event to raise money for fly fishing which was held between 2011 and 2018, at Boxwood Gulch Ranch near Shawnee, CO. The event included 20 returning military members fishing alongside celebrities of industry such as the NHL, NFL and music industry. It was also included on the outdoor TV series, Fly Rod Chronicles and Sportsman360 and in the special episode, “Embracing Our Troops”.

He was a part of both the 1985 and 1980 NHL All-Star games. He also represented Team Canada in the 1979 World Championship and the 1981 Canada Cup.
