Minarik III (January 2, 1960 located in Rochester, New York – April 12 2009 at Webster, New York) was a New York State political figure who was Chairman of the Monroe County, New York as well as the New York State Republican Committees.

Faso was subject to questions during the campaign about his conservatism, anti-life views and lobbying efforts. The Faso-led team lost all state office to Democrats at the beginning of the past 60 years, and it lost 3 Congressional seats. The losses included the Governor Eliot L. Spitzer and State Comptroller Alan Hevesi; both of who would later leave their posts in shame. Minarik quit as chairman shortly following the elections in 2006.

In 2008, he stepped down as chairman of the Monroe County Republican Committee at the request of Maggie Brooks.

Minarik died on April 12, 2009, of a heart attack, aged 49.

His accomplishments as county chairman prompted the governor George E. Pataki to choose him as state chairman. Republican State Chairman in the November election of 2004. Minarik was quickly criticized for his remarks regarding the selection to Howard Dean as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, stating that Howard Dean was the new chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Democrats had become the party of Barbara Boxer, Lynne Stewart along with Howard Dean. These remarks sparked unrest across the nation and culminated with Pataki publically defending Minarik and Dean insisting on his apology, or even Minarik’s departure. Minarik declined, calling it “just an extension of the Dean Scream and asserting that the Democrats should engage with members such as Lynne Stewart instead of accusing me of being a liar. Maybe , then it will be the time that the Democratic Party can start to get some credibility back with the American citizens.

Minarik was the son of Stephen J., Jr. and Eleanor Minarik. Minarik completed his studies at Irondequoit High School in 1978 and earned a bachelor’s degree in political sciences in the University of Rochester in 1982. He was credited with working at the restaurant of his grandfather Steve’s Treetop Inn, as key to his political future.

He began his journey into politics in 1979, working for Young Americans For Freedom the largest conservative group in the country. He was active in the federal government in 1983 when the organization hired him to serve as the deputy county clerk for The Monroe County Legislature’s Republican majority. He was involved in Republican campaigns, including the ones for Congressman Fred J. Eckert and County Executive Lucien Morin. The year 1988 saw him was promoted into the community development department of the county agency and established a campaign committee in 1989 to select Republicans into in the County Legislature. In 1990 the GOP appointed him its executive director for the county committee. This led to being elected chairman in 1992, a position that he held for 16 years.

Minarik was a vocal booster of former Massachusetts Governor William F. Weld’s candidacy for governor, and unsuccessfully pushed for the party to run moderate Republican candidates for governor and United States Senate. In June 2006, the State Republican Committee proceeded to nominate a conservative slate of candidates not favored by Minarik, including Gubernatorial nominee John Faso. Minarik prevailed on Weld to drop out of the Gubernatorial election to unify the party behind Faso.
