Tokokahi is a crucial team player, appearing on 11 out of Cantabrians 12 games during the season and the majority of his appearances coming from the substitutes in the bench, due to intense competition from the other forwards in the front row of the province; Joe Moody, Nepo Laulala and Daniel Lienert- Brown. After only one season and seven games with Canterbury on the domestic stage, Tokolahi was named in Hamilton’s Chiefs Super Rugby squad ahead of the 2015 season. He played in every game throughout the first season of his time in Hamilton when his team made it to the quarter-finals of the tournament, but lost against New Zealand rivals, the Highlanders. In 2015, Tokolahi was mostly a role of a second-half substitute and only played in 5 of the 17 games. It was the case all throughout 2016. With a ferocious competition with the likes of Mitchell Graham, Kane Hames, Hiroshi Yamashita and Atu Moli, Tokolahi could only manage 3 starts in addition to 8 substitute appearances. The Chiefs made it to their Super Rugby semi-finals before being eliminated by the eventual champions The Hurricanes.

Tokolahi was born in Tonga, Tokolahi showed promise to become a star player at a young age. He was then brought into New Zealand on a Sean Fitzpatrick scholarship to study at Sacred Heart College in Auckland. In 2009, at the age of 17 Tokolahi changed schools into St. Bede’s College in Christchurch and was then able to play in Canterbury’s youth squads. The move was controversial at the time , and resulted in allegations of poaching made by the Canterbury Rugby Union. After graduating from high school, Tokolahi was a member of the academy of Canterbury in 2012 as well as was part of the Crusaders Knights development squad in 2013. He also played local club rugby with Sydenham.
Tokolahi first joined the Canterbury squad at the age of 22 , in the year 2014 making his debut in a victory of 48-9 against the perennial opponents Auckland in the first week in the 2014 season. The ability of his to play in both tighthead and loosehead prop positions helped him gain lots of playing time in his first season of provincial rugby. He was able to make seven appearances, two starts, and 5 on the bench when his team made it to the ITM Cup semi- finals before losing out to Tasman.
Searching for a more regular starting role at Super Rugby level, Tokolahi switched franchises ahead of the 2017 Super Rugby season, leaving the Chiefs in favour of the Dunedin-based Highlanders, tournament winners in 2015, who were seeking front-row replacements for the departed Josh Hohneck and the injured Brendon Edmonds.
