Sene Naoupu is one of the most popular and richest Rugby Union Player who was born on February 2, 1984 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. Naoupu began playing women’s rugby union when she was 13 and during her early days, she was a player for North Otago and Hawke’s Bay. She was a student at her first year at the University of Otago on a basketball scholarship, before changing sports and focusing on the sport of rugby union. In September 2003, she was part of the New Zealand women’s national rugby union team’s training squad alongside Farah Palmer, and Anna Richards. She participated in further trials with The Black Ferns but failed to be included in the squad. Following the development of depression and an eating disorder the player took a break from rugby union. The condition was diagnosed as anorexia by her doctor at university. In 2008, she made her return to playing in the for the union of club rugby players Whitestone 45ers.
Naoupu also plays for Naoupu has also played for Ireland female national team in the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series. In February 2017, Naoupu along with Alison Miller and Hannah Tyrrell was removed in Ireland’s 2016 Women’s Six- Nations championship squad in order to play for the Ireland Sevens at the 2017 USA Women’s Sevens. The reason for it was the fact that Ireland Sevens were looking for the top eight spots at the end of the 2016-17 World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series to qualify for this year’s Rugby World Cup Sevens. In April of 2017, Naoupu recorded three scores when she was instrumental in helping Ireland take home the Challenge Trophy at the 2017 Japan Women’s Sevens.

In 2008 when he was working as a co-host for the sports radio show at Auckland, Sene met George Naoupu who played for the Highlanders. In 2011, they got wed in Christchurch. Her playing career since then is similar to her husband’s. Sene as well as George Naoupu first moved to Ireland in 2009 after they both started being a player for Connacht. They spent the next year in Japan in Japan, where George was a player in The Kobelco Steelers and Sene coached rugby union to kids. In 2011 , they returned to Ireland and George returned to Connacht. Sene then was a player for Galwegians where her coaches were George. In 2016, when George became a member of Harlequins, Sene played for Aylesford Bulls Ladies before joining Harlequins Ladies. In July 2017, George quit as a professional union rugby player and was promoted to coaching and player roles with Wicklow. In the same month, Sene began playing for Old Belvedere.
Living with her family in Ireland for the past nine years, Naoupu became eligible to play for in the Ireland female rugby union national team. In February of 2015, the debutant made an appearance in Ireland at the Women’s Six Nations Championship against Italy. On November 27, 2016, when she played in her 14th match with Ireland in the match against New Zealand, Naoupu was requested by Tom Tierney, the head coach to give his Ireland uniforms and jerseys of her team. Naoupu also was a part of Ireland in the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
In New Zealand when she was at the University of Otago, Naoupu played for Otago Spirit in the Women’s Provincial Championship. Her sister, Sini Fanene, also played for Otago Spirit. In Ireland, Naoupu has represented both Connacht and Leinster in the IRFU Women’s Interprovincial Series. She made her debut for Leinster on 3 December 2017 against Ulster.
