Sarmila Bose is one of the most popular and richest Academic who was born on July 4, 1959 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. In her book Dead Reckoning: Memories of the 1971 Bangladesh War, Bose claims that atrocities were committed by both sides during an era that was “dominated by the narrative of the victorious side”. The book, however, does not absolve any of the West Pakistani forces, it states that the officers of the army “turned out to be fine men doing their best to fight an unconventional war within the conventions of warfare”. The book was widely criticized by Naeem Mohaiemen at the BBC for apparent bias in her choice of sources. Bose is also being criticised for her assessment on the 1991 Bangladesh massacre within the Economic & Political Weekly. She has also responded with three of her biggest critics -the names of Naeem Mohaiemen Urvashi Butalia and Srinath Raghavan with the publication.

The grandchild of Indian nationalist Subhas Chandra Bose and granddaughter of the nationalist Sarat Chandra Bose, Bose is the daughter of the former Trinamool Congress parliamentarian Krishna Bose and pediatrician Sisir Kumar Bose. Bose’s brother Sumantra Bose is a professor in the London School of Economics. Sumantra Bose is her brother. Sugata Bose has been a part of the Indian the Indian parliament since 2014. Her birthplace was in Boston and spent her childhood in Calcutta before returning to the US to pursue higher education. She graduated with a bachelor’s in the field of history at Bryn Mawr College, and an advanced master’s degree and doctorate at Harvard University in Political Economy and Government.

Bose supported selling F-16 combat aircrafts to Pakistan as did William Milam, the ex-US Ambassador to Pakistan in 2005, in their piece The right thing to do F-16s for Pakistan is a wise choice.
