Sarah Piampiano is one of the most popular and richest Triathlete who was born on July 24, 1980 in Cumberland County, United States. Sarah Piampiano (born 24 July 1980) is an American professional triathlete as well as an Ironman Triathlon champion.
In 2013, Piampiano competed in IM Melbourne in March (9th), IM Austria in June (4th with the new personal best time at 9:07:30) and IM Mont Tremblant in August (10th). Piampiano was again a qualified candidate for Kona however, she turned down her Kona slot to let her body recover from racing and build up for the coming season.
Piampiano’s 2014 season started well with second-place finishes at 70.3 Pucon and 70.3 New Orleans, but came to an abrupt end at IM Texas in May. Leading up to the race was having issues with her left leg and while an MRI before the race had not shown signs of a stress fracture, she couldn’t even complete her warm-up jog before the race. She was in third place during the marathon, but two miles before the finish line her leg gave out on her, and she was reduced to a walk for the last two miles finishing in 10th place. It was later determined that she had broken her femur, and she was forced to take off the remainder of the summer to rehab the injury.
In her 2016 season, Piampiano defended her 70.3 title in New Orleans as part of her preparation for IM Texas.
Piampiano’s very first Pro event was IM Cozumel in November 2011 (7th). Piampiano moved from Santa Monica, CA to be a part of the renowned open-water swimming trainer Gerry Rodrigues. In her first year being a Professional she was the winner of 70.3 New Orleans which was organized as a duathlon which began with a 2 mile run, but the race was postponed due to weather conditions. The same year, she was also able to compete in Kona for the Ironman World Championships in Kona after finishing 6th at IM Texas and 4th at IM New York. In Kona she came 22nd in the Pro women’s field. She claims this race was among her most difficult races because she was exhausted from an extended season of racing.

In the years following college, she worked in Thomas Weisel Partners and Morgan Stanley in San Francisco and then HSBC Securities in New York City. She was working 90 to 100plus hour work weeks regularly and traveled extensively. In the wake of an bet she placed with a coworker, she decided to sign up at the start of 2009 for her very first triathlon and started training regularly throughout 2010. When she was in 2011, she began cooperating together with Matt Dixon of Purplepatch Fitness as her triathlon coach. She she reduced her training to 30 hours a week and made it to the amateur race. She completed her very first Ironman at Coeur d’Alene and was fifth female amateur at Kona. She was a Pro towards the end of 2011.
Piampiano was employed in the field of investment banking when she competed at her very first triathlon 2009. After stopping smoking, she began regular training and quickly improved. In 2012, she quit her full-time job in finance and began to compete professionally under the direction by Matt Dixon at Purplepatch Fitness and was a winner of 70.3 New Orleans and qualifying for the World Championships in Kona (finishing 23rd) during her first year as a professional racer. When she raced Ironman Texas in 2014 she was injured by a fractured femur, and was forced to spend the summer recovering the injury. In 2015, she took home Ironman 70.3 New Orleans, was seventh in Ironman World Championship in 2015, and finished seventh at Ironman World Championship and won Ironman Western Australia.
Piampiano returned to racing with a 7th place at 70.3 Miami in October 2014 and went on to finish 8th at Ironman Western Australia in December. In early 2015 she raced a lot of 70.3s, once again winning 70.3 New Orleans, despite dealing with two flats on the bike leg. After racing Ironman Texas (6th) and Ironman Austria (3rd with a new PR of 9:03:10) and despite a DNF at Ironman Mont Tremblant she qualified for an August Kona slot. At the Ironman World Championships in Kona, she was third to last in the female Pro field out of the swim (38th), rode a steady bike ride (moving up to 17th place) and then had the best second-half marathon of the entire women’s field to finish in 7th place. She finished the 2015 season by winning her first Ironman race in Western Australia. Similar to her Kona performance, she had a strong 3:01 run, beating second-place finisher Mareen Hufe of Germany by over six minutes.
