He sustained a knee injury while training, which required anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. This ended his season.

Louwrens was born Johannesburg, South Africa. He attended Kempton Park High School. He moved to Australia with his parents at 16 years of age, where he attended Churchlands Senior High School. In 2008, he was invited to the RugbyWA Academy. He returned to South Africa in 2009 and played in the Craven Week tournament. He also represented Valke at Under 19 Currie Cup. He failed a drug test near the end of the season and was expelled for two years from the South African Rugby Union’s disciplinary court for using anabolic steroids.
Louwrens received a second chance in Perth and began playing rugby with the Cottesloe club, before joining the RugbyWA Academy. Louwrens played for the Force ‘A” team in 2012 and 2013. He also participated in the Western Force’s 2013 pre-season against Tonga. Louwrens also was a member the Cottesloe grand final team in 2013. Louwrens signed an Extended Playing Squad contract for the Western Force in 2014
Louwrens has signed for the Melbourne Rebels for the 2020 Super Rugby season.
