Godfrey played high school rugby at Selborne College in East London. He then moved to Durban to become a member of the Sharks Academy. Godfrey represented the Sharks U21 team during the 2010 Under-21 Provincial Championship competition.
In 2012, he returned to the Eastern Cape and joined the Port Elizabeth-based Varsity Cup team, the NMMU Madibaz. Godfrey played in every match of the Madibaz’s 2012 Varsity Cup season and scored two tries. He was also a player for them in 2013-2014. He was named captain of the team and he also started their matches in both 2013 and 2014. He contributed four tries to the Madibaz’s Varsity Cup success, helping them reach the semi-finals in 2013 and 2014.
He joined English National League 3 London & SE side Wimbledon RFC prior the 2015–16 season.
