Kockott was a South African player for five years. In 2006, he started playing for the Sharks during the 2006 Super 14 season. Kockott made only one start in 12 appearances in that first season. The Sharks came in fifth place in his first season. They narrowly missed out on a semi final berth due to a two- point difference. He played in the Currie Cup Premier Division 2006 for the Golden Lions. However, it was only a short stint. In the following year, he signed with the Sharks Super Rugby province. He made more starts in 2007 as the Sharks won the regular season. The Sharks reached the South African derby final but lost 20-19 to the Bulls despite being at home. Kockott was on the bench during that match.
