Kockott was a South African player for five years. In 2006, he started playing for the Sharks during the 2006 Super 14 season. Kockott made only one start in 12 appearances in that first season. The Sharks came in fifth place in his first season. They narrowly missed out on a semi final berth due to a two- point difference. He played in the Currie Cup Premier Division 2006 for the Golden Lions. However, it was only a short stint.
