He was a player for Tala Rugby Club in Cordoba (Argentina). He was the first Argentine-Italian to play for Italy. From 1987 to 1989, he played 12 caps for Italy scoring 1 try, 3 penalties and 13 points in aggregate. He was selected for the 1987 Rugby World Cup. He played one game for Italy in the match against New Zealand at Auckland 22 May 1987. His single appearance at the competition didn’t result in him scoring. Ambrosio’s last game was the 15-12 defeat to the Soviet Union in Moscow on 5 November 1989 for the 1989-1990 FIRA trophy.
After his playing career ended, he returned to Argentina, where he was the head coach of Cordoba Rugby Club from 1999 to 2000. He returned to Italy where he was the head coach of Petrarca Rugby from 2002/03 through 2003/04 and Segni from 2005/06 until 2006/07. He returned to Argentina as the director of Cordoba’s Federal Center of Development and High Performance, where he served the UAR from October 2008 to 2011. Francisco Rubio replaced him and he assumed the leadership of the federal technical section of youth.
