Rachel Elizabeth Unitt, born 5 June 1982 in England, is a footballer who plays for the FA Women’s Championship club London Bees. Unitt started her club career in Wolves and began a long relationship with Everton in 2000. It was interrupted by a three year spell at Fulham in 2001-2004 and a loan period to the New Jersey Wildcats 2005. In 2012, she left Everton for a two year stint at Birmingham City. She later played for Notts County. Unitt is a solid left- back who has won more than 100 caps for England’s women’s national soccer team since her debut in August 2000. She represented England at the 2001 and 2005 UEFA Women’s Championships, as well as the FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2007 and 2011. Due to injury, she was unable to participate in the 2013 UEFA Women’s Championship or the Great Britain team for the 2012 London Olympics. Unitt was the International Player of The Football Association (FA) in 2004 and 2006. She was inducted into The English Football Hall of Fame at National Football Museum in 2016.

Unitt, a former Fulham teammate and England player, joined the American W-League side New Jersey Wildcats in July 2005. They played seven of the final games of their season. Unitt scored the first goal and the Wildcats won the W-League title. Unitt also trained in Malmo FF December 2005 but rejected a contract from the Swedish club due to burnout.

In May 2009, Unitt was one of the first 17 female players to be given central contracts by The Football Association.

With Everton dormant ahead of the 2011 FA WSL season, Unitt played for Leeds City Vixens in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup.

Unitt was awarded the Nationwide International Player Award at the 2004 FA Women’s Football Awards. The FA website voters voted for the same award in 2006.

After 16 U18 appearances, Unitt made her first international debut for England in 2000. In August 2000, Unitt made her senior debut in England in a friendly defeat to France. This was before 50,000 fans at Stade Velodrome. In September 2004, she scored England’s first international goal against the Netherlands. She also scored twice in Walsall, England during England’s friendly 4-1 win over the Czech Republic in 2005.

Unitt began her football career as a Wolves Women 14-year old. After joining Everton Ladies in 2000-01, she signed a professional contract at Fulham L.F.C. The following season was her last. After a spell with Fulham, she returned home to Everton in 2004. She has won the domestic triple with Fulham in 2002-03 and the FA Women’s Cup with Everton in 2010.

At the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China, Unitt was the only outfield member of the England squad who remained unused. On the occasion of her 90th cap, she eventually made a World Cup debut in June 2011, starting England’s 1–1 draw with Mexico in Wolfsburg. In March 2012 a Euro 2013 qualifier in Croatia saw Unitt win her 100th international cap. Captain for the day, Unitt scored England’s third goal in a 6–0 victory, with a diving header.
