In 2011 the year 2011, he was part of the UP Tuks squad that played in the 2011 Varsity Cup competition. He was a part of every single game during the tournament and they went all up to the final to be defeated 16-26 by UCT Ikey Tigers in Pretoria. He played together in the Carlton League for the remainder of the 2011 season and was back in 2012 for their Varsity Cup, but due to injuries, he only made two appearances for their final two games during the regular season.
He was included in the Blue Bulls squad for the 2013 Vodacom Cup and made four appearances as a replacement during the regular season of the competition, helping them to wins in each of those four matches, including a 110–0 victory over competition newcomers Limpopo Blue Bulls in Lephalale.
He was included in the Sharks’ Vodacom Cup team – then called the Natal Wildebeest – for the 2008 Vodacom Cup competition and he made his first class debut in their match against the Leopards in Pietermaritzburg, coming on in the 56th minute in a 32–37 loss. He also featured in their quarter-final match against Western Province, which they lost 14–22 to be eliminated from the competition.
He played again in during the 2010 Vodacom Cup, with the team now renamed Sharks XV. He played four games off the bench in the regular season, which saw the team winning every single game. He was not part of the play-offs in the competition and, despite playing in a mandatory friendly match before the start of 2009. Currie Cup Premier Division against the Pumas in Witbank but was not named in any subsequent Sharks squads.

Despite being born in Durban, Zulu grew up in Johannesburg. He attended the Parktown Boys’ School. Then, the year 2005 was when he was awarded an invitation to join the Golden Lions squad that won the non-official final of the Craven Under-18 Week event held in Bloemfontein.
After graduating from highschool after which he went back in Durban and joined the Sharks Academy in which he played for the Sharks U19 side at the Provincial Championship for Under-19s in 2006 and also the Sharks U21 team in the 2007 Provincial Under-21 Championship.
In 2012, he was included in the Pumas squad prior to the 2012 Currie Cup First Division competition. He made his Pumas – and Currie Cup – debut in their 51–18 victory over the Border Bulldogs in East London in Round Five of the competition. He made his first start for the Pumas (and his first start in any first class match) the following week against the Eastern Province Kings in a match that ended in a 30–30 draw. After three more appearances off the bench, he again started their match against the SWD Eagles in Nelspruit and scored his first senior try in a 70–27 win. One more start and three appearances as a replacement followed for the remainder of the regular season as the Pumas finished second on the log. Zulu came on as a substitute in their 37–30 semi- final victory against the Griffons, as well as in the final against the Eastern Province Kings, which the Pumas narrowly lost 25–26 in Port Elizabeth.
