Stapleton was a student at UCD on an athletic scholarship and was an defender for the women’s soccer team. Alongside Sylvia Gee, Mary Waldron and Caroline Thorpe, she was a prominent player in UCD’s UCD team that took home three consecutive FAI Women’s Cup finals between 2002 between 2002 and 2004. Between 2007 and 2013 Stapleton also worked for Ballinteer St John’s GAA/Dublin GAA as a Gaelic games promotional officer.
