She began taking a powerful medication which slowed the progression of her arthritis, but did not completely eliminate the symptoms. She is an ambassador of the Canadian Arthritis Society. Her name changed to Nicole Yam after marriage. In July 2013, she was a medical student in The University of Saskatchewan.

Watt became a senior Grand Prix debut the following season, competing in the 2001 Skate Canada International and 2001 Trophee Lalique. She was 4th at the 2002 Canadian Championships.

Watt was one of the recipients of the 2004 Stacey Levitt Women and Sport and 2011 UCBeyond scholarships.

Watt started the CanSkate program when she was around seven, or even eight. Nicole Watt, married surname Yam, (born April 28 1985) is an Canadian former figure skater in competitive competition. She was the 2001 Canadian silver medalist at the national level and was a participant at the 2001 Four Continents Championships and three Grand Prix events.

In the autumn of 2000 Watt got the two ISU Junior Grand Prix assignments to compete at Mexico as well as China. On January 1, 2001, Watt was awarded Silver medals for seniors during Canadian nationals. She was placed in her 2002 Four Continents and finished 11th.

In late December 2002, her left knee was drained due to swelling caused by her arthritis. She withdrew from the 2003 Canadian Championships after competing in the qualifying and short programs. In February 2003, Watt said that her disease was in remission and that she was off her medication and training on ice 3–4 hours a day. Her condition subsequently deteriorated, causing her to leave skating and stay off the ice almost entirely for three and a half years until autumn 2008. Although she attempted to make a comeback, she did not qualify for the 2009 Canadian Championships.
