In 1999, he moved to Tranmere Rovers. He made 89 appearances for the team and played in the 2000 Football League Cup final. This was his second League Cup Final in his career, 10 year after the first. He scored the winning goal in Tranmere’s 1-0 win over West Ham United, a Premier League team.

Nick Henry was awarded a PS500,000 move by Sheffield United on 28 February 1997. On 9 December, the blades lost to Charlton Athletic 2-1. After his youth academy, Henry began his professional career at Oldham Athletic. Under Joe Royle, Henry made his debut during the 1986-87 season. Henry was a key player in the club’s greatest success period. This included the 1989-90 cup runs and reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Henry is best known for scoring the famous 3-1 League Cup win over Arsenal. The club was promoted to the top flight again the next season. Henry scored the opening day of the Premier League in 1992, in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea. He made 273 league appearances and scored 19 goals during his ten-year tenure at the club.

Henry was involved in a small-noticed incident that may have changed football’s history during Oldham’s 1989-1990 FA Cup run. Henry’s long-range shot from the FA Cup semifinal replay against Manchester United was level. Television pictures showed that Henry appeared to have crossed the goal line and bounced back into play. Manchester United won the tie with Mark Robins’ goal. If Henry’s goal had been given, and Oldham went on to win, it is possible that Alex Ferguson, Manchester United’s manager, would have been fired after yet another trophyless season, in which his team was languishing at the bottom of the (then First Division) First Division. This would have prevented the shift in footballing power towards Manchester United after the introduction of Sky Sports, and the creation of the Premier League.

On 12 July 2002, Henry joined Scarborough F.C. on a free transfer. On 17 August he got sent off on his Scarborough debut in the 1–1 draw at Burton Albion. He went on to make 24 appearances (two as sub) for Scarborough, scoring two goals. He later managed the club, before being sacked after a run of poor results. He later became the Head Chef and owner of ‘The Albert’ pub.
