Morten Soubak, a Danish handball coach who was born in Fodby on 6 August 1964 is the Angola women’s national team’s coach. Between 2009 and 2016, he coached Brazil’s national team and led them to the historic title at the 2013 World Women’s Handball Championship.

Soubak signed an agreement for one year with Primeiro de Agosto, the Angolan women’s club.

Soubak eventually returned to Brazil to coach the Esporte Clube Pinheiros male team. After winning many titles over three years, Soubak was invited to lead the women’s national handball team by the Brazilian Handball Confederation. Soubak led the Brazilians to their greatest success since 2009 when he took over the team. They won the 2013 World Women’s Handball Championship, the 2011 Pan American Games and reached the quarterfinals at the 2011 World Championship as well as the 2012 Olympics. Soubak spent 2013-2014 in Austria as a coach at Hypo Niederosterreich. This was a partnership between CBHB and Soubak. Soubak is married with a Brazilian woman and has a daughter.

Soubak, who was part of a Danish women’s team that had just visited Brazil, decided in 1993 to travel to South America in search for local contacts. This helped him in 1995 when he worked with the FCK Handbold junior teams and met Eduardo Henrique de Macedo, a Brazilian coach who was studying Danish handball. The coach invited Soubak to Osasco to manage a team, but the Dane left after six months because of the insufficient infrastructure and lack of resources. Soubak was unsuccessful in coaching Virum-Sorgenfri as well as GOG after his return to Denmark. Soubak was then recognized as a TV2 handball commentator between 2000 and 2005. He also coached the GOG and FCK women’s handball teams, with Chana Masson as the goalkeeper.

Fodby is a small village located west of Naestved. Soubak was born there. He was a huge fan of both handball and Brazilian football as a child. After graduating from college, Soubak began coaching junior and child teams while also volunteering for the Red Cross. Many Yugoslav refugees fled to Denmark during the Yugoslav Wars. Soubak organised sports activities and directed them to local clubs. Virum-Sorgenfri was his first coaching position.
