The family was born in Sacramento, California and raised in Hawaii. Rohde graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory, Canoga Park, Calif., in 1973. There, he was a part of the drama productions for students and was named Class Salutatorian. Rohde earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of fine Arts in Fine Arts from Occidental College in Los Angeles.

In the past, Rohde led the team who transformed the former Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure into Guardians of the Galaxy” Mission: Breakout!. Rohde was hired by Imagineering in the year 1980, during the creation of Epcot as an artist and model artist for Epcot’s Mexico pavilion. He was later an artist on the renovation of Fantasyland at Disneyland and the Captain EO 3D film attraction featuring the singer Michael Jackson, the Norway pavilion at Epcot and the Adventurers Club, a 1930s-themed bar and lounge which opened in 1989 in the Pleasure Island entertainment district at Walt Disney World Resort.

After designing Aulani in Hawaii Rohde was tasked with creating Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The project took six years to complete and opened in May 2017.
