In 1985, she became a professional tennis player and her last professional match was in 2000. Javer started her 1988 season strong by reaching the second round at the Australian Open. It was her first match in the main draw of Grand Slam. Then, she reached the second round at the new Tier V WTA event in Auckland. She won three matches in April to qualify for the Suntory Japan Open. The third was against Sarah Loosemore, a compatriot. She beat Barbara Gerken in round one of the main draw to set up a clash against Natasha Zvereva, top seed and world number 13. Javer upset the world by beating Zvereva straight sets 7-6, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals, where she was defeated by Stephanie Rehe, 5-7 and 1-6. Monique won the title at the Tier V WTA tournament in Singapore immediately after this shock result. Javer defeated Dianne Balestrat (world No.30) in the semifinals 6-0, 6-1, despite being unseeded. In the final, she beat Leila Meskhi (No.4) 7-6, 6-3. Javer’s best performances in the remainder of the year were her second round results at Eastbourne, where she lost to Martina Navratilova, the eventual champion, and Los Angeles. Her season ended with her competing for Great Britain at the Wightman Cup. Patty Fendick beat her 6-2, 6-1. Javer was the world’s No.73 for 1988, the first of her two-year- end top 100 rankings.
The 1990 season began with a number of tour events in the USA for Javer. She reached the second round of the event in Indian Wells before heading to Asia to where she reached the quarterfinals of the Suntory Open and the third round of the Singapore Open. In May, Javer reached the second round of the French Open for the first (and only) time in her career. She defeated Angeliki Kanellopoulou, 4–6, 6–4, 7–5, in round one before losing to Italian, Laura Lapi, in the second round. In her very next tournament she reached the second round in Eastbourne before going on to experience another first round loss in Wimbledon. Javer competed for Great Britain in the Fed Cup in July where she won one of her two singles matches. Following this she reached the second round of the Canadian Open where she came up against the reigning world No.1, Steffi Graf. Javer lost 6–1, 6–2. In August she got her second win of the season in the main draw of a Grand Slam when she reached the second round of the US Open by beating Jennifer Santrock in the first round. Silke Meier defeated Javer in round two. In October, Monique came up against the world No.10, Conchita Martínez, in the semifinals of the Arizona Classic but was beaten 6–1, 6–1. She played two more events this year and lost in the first round of both. She ended 1990 with a singles ranking of world No.101.
Javer managed to reach the second round of all four Grand Slams during her fifteen-year career. She reached the second round of the French Open in 1990, the US Open in 1990 and Wimbledon in 1993. She also progressed to round two of the Australian Open on three occasions in the years 1988, 1991 and 1993, to give her a total of six wins in the main draws of the Grand Slam events.
Javer was able to qualify for the second round at the Bausch & Lomb Championships, Amelia Island in her first event of 1987. Javer tried to qualify for WTA events the entire season, but failed to make it past the first round. World No.159 was her 1987 year-end ranking.

Javer was defeated in the first round of her first match on ITF circuit’s June 1985 $10,000 tournament. In 1985, she participated in three more tournaments, reaching the second stage of a WTA tournament, the quarterfinals at another $10,000 ITF event, and losing in round two of the final $10,000 ITF.
