She graduated from high school on an Indiana University soccer scholarship.

Ludlow was the American team’s gold medalist in the 4×800 m relay at 2015 World Relays. The team’s winning time of 8:00.62 was an American record. In 2:00.09 she placed fourth at the United States championships, just 0.04 seconds short of qualifying for the World Championships Beijing. She improved her personal record to 1:58.68 at Paris Diamond League meeting the following week, where she placed fourth. Ludlow was chosen to replace Ajee’ Wilson, who pulled out of the World Championships because of an injury.

2011 was her first year as a professional. She improved her personal record to 1:59.12 (again, in Lignano), and finished seventh at the United States championships. She finished second behind Fantu Magiso at the Adidas Grand Prix 2012 in 1:59.18. She missed qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the Olympic Trials, she was in the top three up until the end but fell to fourth with meters remaining. To heal from knee problems, she skipped the 2013 season. She married Reed Ludlow that fall, a former Division II collegiate basketball star. In 2014, she returned to track and placed third at the United States championships. She also finished in the top six at four Diamond League meetings, breaking the two-minute mark in Lausanne as well as Monaco. Track & Field News ranked the athlete #10 in the world, which was her first top 10 ranking.

After playing soccer her freshman year at Indiana she was diagnosed with knee problems. She had also suffered from them in high school. Track was no problem for her so she joined the Indiana Hoosiers track and field team her sophomore year. She now runs the 800m and 400m and has been awarded a scholarship. She quickly became a pro at the 800m and continued to improve. She finished second to Phoebe Wright at the NCAA championships 2010 in a personal record 2:02.14.

In July 2016, Ludlow competed in the Olympic trials, running 1:59.59 and again placing 4th by 0.04 seconds. One week later, she set a personal best of 1:57.68 in Monaco, becoming the seventh fastest US woman at that distance.
