He was part the Malaysian team that faced Brazil and Manchester United F.C. In 2002. In 2002, he represented Malaysia at the 2001 and 2003 SEA Games. He was also a participant in the 2002 Tiger Cup and the 2004 Tiger Cup. Syamsuri was the first Malaysian goalkeeper in an international match during 2003 SEA Games in Vietnam. In Malaysia’s 3-4 loss against Vietnam, Syamsuri scored the long- range goal using a drop kick in his own penalty box.
Prior to moving to Pahang FA he was the primary goalkeeper at Terengganu FA. He was the Malaysia FA Cup runner-up in 2004. This was his greatest achievement with Terengganu. Terengganu lost by 3-0 to Perak FA after conceding three goals in overtime. He was also Terengganu’s primary goalkeeper, beating Azmin Azram Abdul Aziz, Mohd Hamsani Ahmad and Azizon Abdul Kadir.
For 2009 season, Syamsuri returned to Terengganu but this time with PBDKT T-Team FC. In his return with the national team, he play 68 minutes and conceded three goals against UAE.
