1980. He most recently played in the US PRO Rugby competition for San Francisco Rush. Although he plays as a fullback, he has also been a centre and wing.

Muliaina, who had started at fullback against Argentina on 9 October 2011, played his 100th All Blacks game during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Muliaina, who had injured his shoulder, was forced to leave the field during the half- time game. Muliaina was eventually diagnosed with a fractured shoulder and was therefore dropped from the New Zealand World Cup squad. Muliaina, who had just completed his 100th Test cap, retired from the All Blacks squad on October 10,

2011. He returned to the All Blacks on October 23rd 2011 to claim his Gold Medal after the All Blacks won their 2011 Rugby World Cup Final.

It was announced in March 2016 that Muliaina would play the upcoming season in the United States in the newly formed PRO Rugby competition. He joined the San Francisco Rush midway through the inaugural 2016 season.

Muliaina was born in Salelesi (Samoa) and moved to New Zealand with his family at three years old. Muliaina was an international player for New Zealand between 2003 and his retirement following the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Muliaina was the second All Black to achieve 100 caps in the World Cup quarterfinal against Argentina 2011. Muliaina scored 33 tries for New Zealand, and remains one of the 30 most prolific try scorers in rugby union testing history.

He was a star in Southland’s age group representative team. Muliaina attended Cargill High School and Southland Boys High School. There he excelled at rugby, which earned him a scholarship to Kelston Boys High School in Auckland in 1998. Muliaina was a member of the NZ Secondary Schools’ XV team that won the world championship. Muliaina did the same thing again with the Under 19 world champion side. He was also part of the 2001 and 2000 world champion Under 21 (NZ Colt), teams.

Muliaina was an Auckland Blues player in 2001. Muliaina was later part of the All Black team at the 2003 Rugby World Cup. He was the All Blacks’ only player to be selected in 2004 for each test. Muliaina also participated in 11 tournaments with the sevens team. He won a Commonwealth Games gold medal at Manchester 2002. Muliaina plays fullback, despite his preference to play as an outside centre. He joined the Chiefs in 2006, and he won his 100th Super Rugby Cap with them in 2011.

As of 4 May 2014, Mils had signed a one-year contract for Irish provincial region Connacht in the Pro12. On 21 November 2014, Muliaina made his Connacht debut in a 43-3 win over Italian side Zebre at the Sportgrounds.
