Powers was a Rockhurst University student and played for the men’s soccer team between 1975 and 1980. He is a member of Rockhurst University’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Powers was with the Sidekicks from 1993 to 2002, when he retired. The Sidekicks moved from the original MISL, to the Continental Indoor Soccer League (1993-1997), to the World Indoor Soccer League (1998-192001) and finally to the second Major Indoor Soccer League (22002-04).
Mike Powers is a retired American soccer midfielder who played sixteen years with the Dallas Sidekicks. He also played in the second American Soccer League and the United Soccer League. Since 2012, Powers has been an assistant coach for the relaunched Dallas Sidekicks of the Major Arena Soccer League.
Powers was named to both the 1989 and 1991 Major Indoor Soccer League All-Star teams. The Dallas Sidekicks retired Powers’ #5 jersey in October 2002. Powers was inducted into St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame in October 2013.

The 1983 season saw the ASL and Express collapse. Powers was then transferred to the Dallas Americans of United Soccer League, where he played for two seasons. In 1985, both the Americans and USL were destroyed. Powers was invited to an open trial in 1986 with the Dallas Sidekicks. He did well. Powers signed as a free agent with the Dallas Sidekicks on October 30, 1986. Powers was selected by the Las Vegas Dustdevils in 1994’s CISL Expansion Draft. However, Powers refused to be a part of the team. In July 1994, Powers’ rights were returned to the Sidekicks by the Dustdevils in exchange for Gary Young.
After his retirement, Powers spent two years as an assistant coach with the Sidekicks. In 2012, he returned to the relaunched Sidekicks as an assistant coach.
