Michael Rowan O’Driscoll, a former Irish rugby union player, was born October 8, 1978. He was a Munster player in the Pro12, Heineken Cup and international for Ireland. He was a key senior player for Munster, and captained the province many times, especially during the 2008-09 season.
He made his Munster debut in 1998 against Neath. O’Driscoll also played in France for USA Perpignan during his professional career. He was primarily a second-row player in Ireland. In France, he played often in the back row. In 2005, he returned to Munster and was an integral member of the Munster team. He was awarded the Munster Player-of-the-Year award for the 2009/10 season. O’Driscoll was the eighth Munster player who won 200 caps for the province in a league match against Newport Gwent Dragons on March 3, 2012.
O’Driscoll announced that he would be retiring as a national and international rugby player at the close of the 2011-12 season. Munster lost 45-10 in the away league semi-final against Ospreys, O’Driscoll’s last game for the province.

O’Driscoll was a student at Presentation Brothers College in Cork. He was also in the same class with Peter Stringer. In 1996, he won a school rugby medal. He played underage GAA with Eire Og Cork. Brian O’Driscoll (his compatriot from Leinster) is not his relative.
He made his international debut in 2001 as a substitute against Romania. O’Driscoll was awarded 23 caps for Ireland. The last one came against Scotland during the 2011 Rugby World Cup warm ups. He was part of the 2009 Grand Slam winning Irish team. He was part of the Irish 2011 World Cup training squad, which included warm-up tests in August. However, he was not selected for the final 30-man World Cup squad. He never played again for his country.
It was announced on 10 April 2014 that O’Driscoll would be joining Munster’s coaching staff from 1 July 2014 as a Technical Advisor. O’Driscoll will also be responsible for Munster A team.
