Michele Timms is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on June 28, 1965 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Michele Margaret Timms AM, born 28 June 1965, is an Australian basketball coach. She was also a retired professional basketball player who played in the Women’s National Basketball Association for the Phoenix Mercury. Many consider the Melbourne native one of Australia’s greatest ever basketball players. Kalsie Timms is her only child. Timms was inducted in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame (2008, 2008). In 2016, she was inducted into FIBA Hall of Fame.

She was a Phoenix Mercury player when the WNBA began in 1997. In 1998, she lost to the Houston Comets. Timms was within inches of giving Mercury their first title in 1997. With the Mercury leading 1-0 with only three seconds left, Timms made a three point shot that bounced off Timms’ back. The Comets won the overtime game 74-69 and the championship game in Game Three. Timms retired in 2001 and joined the Mercury’s television broadcasting team almost immediately. This job she held for only one season. Her Mercury averaged 4.6 points per game and 4.0 assists. In 1997, her highest scoring season was 12.1 points per match. Her number 7 jersey was retired by Phoenix Mercury on August 7, 2002. It is also the only WNBA jersey to have been retired. She was the Mercury’s career-leader in assists upon her retirement.

Timms played for four clubs in her WNBL career: Bulleen, Nunawading, Perth and Sydney. In 2005, Timms was honoured by the WNBL with the creation of the Michele Timms Cup. The cup is presented to the winner of the Bulleen Boomers- Dandenong Rangers derbies.

She worked as the basketball development officer/ assistant coach for the South Dragons in the Australian National Basketball League. During her time with the Dragons, she impressed many of the club’s staff and players with her sound knowledge of the game and excellent coaching skills. She left the club on 9 January 2008 and during the middle of the Dragons’ season, to fulfill her career ambitions by moving to the United States.

In 1996, she also helped the Australian women’s basketball team win their first Olympic medal. It was a bronze at Atlanta. Timms was part of the team that won the silver medal four years later in front their own fans.
