- He is the founder and CEO of several start-up and expansion stage businesses. His expertise includes auction marketplaces, digital media for consumers, fundraising, corporate management and mergers and acquisitions. Walrath was the CEO and founder of Right Media, an online marketplace for advertising that was purchased by Yahoo in 2007 for $850 million. Walrath founded the WGI Group, a venture capital firm providing seed investments to Internet entrepreneurs, after Right Media was acquired by Yahoo for $850 million in 2007. Walrath is currently Chairman of Moat, a search engine for display ads and resource guide; Chairman of Yext Inc., a company that synchronizes business listings across 50 websites and has been valued at $270 Million; and Member of the Board of Directors of Inadco, Inc., a cost per lead advertising platform. Walrath received the highly coveted Ernst & Young Entrepreneurship of the Year award in 2007.
In 2008, he and his wife founded “The Walrath Family Foundation” in order to support social, environmental, and health organizations. The Walraths have also donated between $10,000 to $20,000 to schools they were associated with. They have supported environmental organizations like Grassroots Environmental Education and Food and Water Watch, as well as the Peconic land trust. They also support humanitarian and arts organizations fighting genocide.
Walrath left Yahoo in 2009 to focus on his passion for small, innovative companies. He co-founded early stage investment firm, WGI Group, with brothers Noah and Jonah Goodhart, who were founding investors in Right Media. Walrath began to invest and fund various startup companies, offering CEO mentoring and up to $500,000 for early stage investments. WGI Group has invested in more than 13 companies since 2007, including Taboola, Optimal, Inc. and Yext. One of the biggest being Yext, where Walrath serves as board chair. Walrath also co-founded and is chairman of moat.com, which counts some 15,000 clients, including AOL and Forbes.
In 2012, Walrath acquired the Surf Lodge, a very popular establishment for concerts and nightlife in Montauk, New York. He is also part owner of Swallow East, a family oriented, dockside restaurant in Montauk, New York. Swallow East opened their doors in June, 2012.
Right Media was founded in January 2003 by him. It is one of the first digital advertising marketplaces. His vision is to be more transparent and open. Right Media allows web publishers the opportunity to join advertising networks that show ads in their ad space from the highest bidder per impression. Right Media saw a 2,539% increase in revenue over three years, going from $1.3 million in 2003 to $34.8 millions in 2006. Right Media was ranked 43rd by Inc. magazine on the list for fastest-growing private companies in America. Walrath was the Senior Vice President of Advertising Strategy at Yahoo from 2007 to 2009. He sold Right Media for $850 Million to Yahoo in 2007.

Walrath received a BA degree in English from the University of Richmond in 1997. After graduating from college, Walrath began to promote athletic shoes at sporting events. Later, his interest in fitness led to him pursuing two jobs: a personal trainer and a fitness program manager. Walrath began selling online advertising at DoubleClick in 1999. Despite not having any tech experience, this was a change of career. Walrath stated that the only qualification he had was sales skills.
Walrath started at DoubleClick in 1999 right before the dotcom bubble burst. DoubleClick laid off 20% of its employees, but Walrath continued to work for the company as director of direct marketing and then senior vice president of strategy development at MaxWorldwide. Atlas Films focuses on feature-length documentary films that educate about social issues and inspire change. Their first film, Tapped, was an exposé on the bottled water industry and its effect on health, pollution and climate change. For their upcoming documentary, The Big Picture, Atlas, in partnership with Katie Couric, exposes the root causes of childhood obesity. The film is still in production.
