The Anaheim Ducks drafted Jones in the 24th round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo. The Ducks assigned Jones to the San Diego Gulls as their AHL affiliate after Jones’ junior team, the London Knights, was eliminated in the 2017 OHL playoffs.

At the 2016 Memorial Cup, Jones played in the Knights opening game against the Red Deer Rebels on May 20, however, he was held off the score sheet in a 6–2 win. On May 10, Jones scored his first professional goal against Troy Grosenick of the San Jose Barracuda in a 4–3 overtime loss. In nine post-season games, Jones scored a goal and an assist.

Jones was unable to score in his first OHL game in over a year, a 5-3 loss against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Jones scored his first OHL point in his career, an assist, on October 4th, against the Oshawa Generals. Jones’s first goal was in his seventh OHL game. This would result in a 12-game suspension. Jones was able to return from his suspension and play in the third round of the Knights J. Ross Robertson Cup final against the Niagara IceDogs. Jones was instrumental in helping the Knights win the championship. London beat Niagara in four games to earn a spot in the 2016 Memorial Cup.
