Matt Striebel, a Northampton High School lacrosse coach and professional lacrosse player, was born January 12, 1979. He is currently a professional field lacrosse player in the Major League Lacrosse for the New York Lizards. From 1998 to 2001, he was a star on the Princeton Tigers’ men’s lacrosse and Princeton Tigers’ men’s soccer teams.
He was an honorable mention USILA All-American Team Selection in 2000 and 2001 at Princeton. He was a second-team All-Ivy League selection for 1999 and 2000, and a first-team selection for 2001. He was an All-American USILA Scholar in 2001. Princeton was undefeated during his four-year career in Ivy League Conference play, with consecutive 6-0 records. Princeton was invited to participate in the 1999 tournament. He was also a finalist at the 2000 tournament. Princeton won championships in 1998 and 2001, which brought the school’s consecutive tournament invitation streak to 12. Ryan Boyle, a freshman from Striebel’s 2001 senior year, made it necessary for him to move from midfield to attack during his 2001 season. After Princeton’s defeat to Syracuse 14-8, the move was made in the first practice. Striebel was previously responsible for orchestrating Princeton’s offense from behind the goal. But Bill Tierney, the head coach, made the change on March 25, 2001. Striebel was playing in the middle of the field during the 1998 NCAA championship season. After the switch, Princeton remained undefeated throughout the remainder of 2001.
In addition to his field lacrosse career, Striebel played one season in 2003 of box lacrosse with the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League. Streibel was traded by the Wings to the New York Saints in February 2003. He never appeared in a game for the Saints. Striebel has also played professional soccer for the Western Massachusetts Pioneers.
Striebel served as an assistant coach for Princeton Men’s Lacrosse in 2005. Striebel also spent time assisting the men’s lacrosse team at Iowa during his time there. As of 12 April 2012, Striebel currently coaches the Varsity Boys Lacrosse team at Northampton High School in Northampton, Massachusetts which is just south of his hometown. He also played professionally in 2012 and 2013.
Striebel started his career with the Bridgeport Barrage’s 2001 MLL season. He remained with the team until the 2003 season. He then moved to Philadelphia with the franchise, and played for the Philadelphia Barrage between 2004-2008. He joined the Chicago Machine in 2009 and was then a member the Rochester Rattlers in the 2011 MLL Season. Boyle and Striebel were reunited in Philadelphia for five seasons. Striebel helped the Barrage win three Steinfeld Cup championships, in 2006, and 2007. He scored the decisive goal in the victory 13-11 over the Boston Cannons in the 2004 championship game. He scored nine points in the 2006 game. This included four goals and one assist. He received the 2007 Steinfeld Cup Game Most Valuable Player Award. Striebel was a participant in the Major League Lacrosse All-Star Games of 2005 and 2007. He represented Team USA in the 2006 All-Star game, scoring a goal as well as two assists. In 2007 and 2008, Striebel was a MLL All-Pro selection. Striebel was an MLL All Star in 2011. Striebel was an MLL All-Star in 2011.

Striebel was an honorable mention All Ivy League soccer player in 2000 and a 2000 Academic All Ivy selection in soccer. Striebel, a junior, was part of the 1999 Ivy League Champion Princeton Soccer Team that earned an invitation for the 1999 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. The team had a record of 10-5-2 (5-1-1 Ivy League).
Striebel scored two goals during the 2000 NCAA tournament against Maryland and another against Syracuse in the 13-7 finals.
