Patrick Manning Kerney (born December 30 1976) is an ex- American football defensive player which played the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. He played in the NCAA football tournament with the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and was picked to the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft, the thirtieth overall selection.

The year 2001 was a memorable one for the Falcons as Patrick Kerney recorded 12 sacks. The 2002 season began with a bang the Falcons signed an extension of seven years to Patrick Kerney. The contract, which was likely to be terminated at the end of five seasons also included record-setting team $8.5 million bonus on signing. It could have brought as much as $40 million if all incentives are satisfied. Pat ended in 2002 with 10.5 sacks, while playing the left defensive end of an offensive 3-4. Pat played at that position in 2003 and had 6.5 scores of sacks.

Patrick Kerney was originally recruited to play lacrosse. Pat was a defensive lineman of the Virginia lacrosse team between the years 1996 as well as 1997. Pat was a part of the team in 1996 Cavalier team that advanced to an NCAA championship game but fell to Princeton 13-12 after overtime. Patrick Kerney was also a part of the team in 1997 which made it into the NCAA playoffs but lost against Maryland at the quarterfinals by 10-9. Pat was not a part of the training for the 1996 spring football season for the purpose of playing as a player on the lacrosse squad.

In 2004 the Falcons returned to a 4-3 defense and Patrick Kerney responded with his best season up until that time, playing the Pro Bowl for the first time and recording career-highs in tackles (66), sacks (13) and passes defensed (9). Pat was also voted second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press.
