Lucinda Ruh is one of the most popular and richest Figure Skater who was born on July 13, 1979 in Zürich, Canton of Zürich, Switzerland. Lucinda Martha Ruh was conceived in Zurich, Switzerland on 13 July 1979. When she was four years old, her family moved to Paris in France and Tokyo in Japan. At seven years old, she was more interested in ballet than skating. She received a scholarship to The Royal Ballet of London. She was also a cellist and pianist.

Toller Cranston was her first employer in Canada. She moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1996. She worked in San Francisco with Christy Ness, California, but she developed two Achilles tendinitis and a ruptured shoulder. She moved to Harbin in China to train with Chen Lu’s ex-coach, Hongyun Liu. However, her jumping improved and the Chinese federation opposed a non-national being trained under him. She moved to Switzerland in December 1998, and met Oliver Honer, her coach. It was her first time living in her home country.

She toured around the world from 2000 to 2006 with Stars on Ice USA and Canada, Champions on Ice, Art on Ice to name a few. She skated for many charities and 9/11 memorial at Madison Square Garden and participated in the 2010 and 2011 iterations of “One Step Closer”, a figure skating exhibition to benefit the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children. She is the author of Frozen Teardrop, a memoir published by SelectBooks on November 2011.

Following her retirement, Ruh began working as a coach and a spinning coach specialist. On 3 April 2003, she set a world record for the most continuous spins (115) on one foot at Chelsea Piers Sky Rink in New York City. She nearly doubled the previous record of British figure skater Neil Wilson (60 revolutions).

Ruh started working with Nobuo Sato in 1986. In 1994, she won the bronze medal at Japan Junior Championships. She enjoyed jumping at first, but her interest waned when she reached 5’9″ (175.26cm) in age. “The center of gravity was higher and combined with rigid training, it meant that I never had the chance to get my timing or balance back. Bad falls and injuries caused me to dislike jumping.

Lucinda Martha Ruh, born 13 July 1979, is a three-time Swiss National gold medalist competitive figure skating. She was also the 2001 and 2000 world professional bronze medalists. Her exceptional spinning abilities and her ability to dance on ice make her the “Queen” of Spin. Ruh established a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous spins (115) in April 2003. At six rotations per second, she is the longest and most efficient ice spinner in the world. Over twenty new spin positions have been created by her, which are now required for competitions. Stars On Ice, Champions on Ice and many other international tours, she skewed live to Seal, Aretha Franklin and Gloria Gaynor. She also published Frozen Teardrop.

Ruh started skating in 1984 shortly after she moved to Japan. When she was eight years old, Ruh decided to skate as her primary activity.

In the summer of 1999, she went to the U.S. and was briefly coached by Galina Zmievskaya but tore knee ligaments and returned to Switzerland for treatment. Her last ISU event was the 1999 Cup of Russia. She sustained an injury after falling on a jump during practice the day before the competition but took three Cortisone injections a day and finished 6th at the event. She later learned she had fractured her spine, resulting in two dislocated discs. Her spinning may also have resulted in subtle concussions. A study is underway to determine whether intensive training of spins may cause concussions.
