Leonid Desyatnikov is one of the most popular and richest Composer who was born on October 16, 1955 in Kharkiv, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. Desyatnikov is the composer of four operas, including the orchestral symphony The Rite of Winter 1949 and vocal cycles of poem from Rilke as well as his fellow OBERIU poets, as well as several instrumental interpretations of themes composed by Astor Piazzolla. His style has been identified by the composer in terms of “an emancipation of consonance, transformation of banality and ‘minimalism’ with a human face”. His favorite style includes “a tragically naughty bagatelle”.

Desyatnikov has been working together with Gidon Kremer since 1996 , as music director (Wie der Alte Leiermann …; the chamber version of Sketches to Sunset; Russian Seasons) and also orchestrating the music of Astor Piazzolla, such as the Tango Operita Maria de Buenos Aires and the tango set Cuatro estaciones portenas. Desyatnikov composed the score of the movies Sunset (1990), Lost in Siberia (1991), Hammer and Sickle (1994), Moscow Nights (Katya Izmailova) (1994) Giselle’s Mania (1995), Prisoner of the Mountains (1996), All That Is Tender (1996), Moscow (2000) and The Wife’s Diary (2000), Wife’s Journal (2000) and The Target (2010).
