Leon David Lloyd (born 22 September 1977 in Coventry) is a retired English union footballer from the rugby league who played outside or wing center with the Leicester Tigers between 1996 and 2007. He played his final 2007/8 season with Gloucester.

But he was able to recover with two scores including the match-winner Tigers 2001 Heineken Cup Final, only to sustain a second injury while Leicester kept the trophy at the end of May. This injury also forced his participation in the England Sevens team to play in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

Lloyd agreed a deal to leave Leicester Tigers for Guinness Premiership team Gloucester Rugby. in 2007 where he scored five tries in just six games. However, his playing career was cut short in 2008 after he suffered a career- ending knee injury during a game against the Ospreys.

In 2009 Lloyd was appointed foundation director for Oakham School, a private school in the Midlands, where he used his contacts to help raise funds for the school, ensuring its continued success and financial security.

Lloyd was named as a replacement for injuries as part of the England 1999 World Cup squad but didn’t play in any games. Lloyd went on to earn the first of his two international caps following season , as substitute for South Africa in 2000, but there was some concern over his conduct after the player was shown hitting an opponent. Lloyd began his career for Leicester Tigers in 1996, taking over the ageing England player Rory Underwood from the side. In the same year Lloyd made it into the team which took home the Madrid Sevens and in the following year , was substituted for the Heineken Cup Final in which Leicester fell 28-9 against Brive.

Leon Lloyd was born in Coventry in the Midlands in the Midlands, where he was raised and went to Coundon Court School. He was a player with England Schools, England Colts, England U21s, Eng 7s, and the Barbarians and was a great scorer of tries in the Tigers Youth XV and Development XV. Lloyd began his career for Leicester in 1996, aged 17 and soon thereafter was a member of England U21. He went into both of his caps in England in 2000 , against South Africa.

He played in the England side during 2001 tour to North America, where he played in three tests and scored two tries. Unfortunately he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery and kept him out of the Tigers squad for the start of the 2001/02 season and ultimately cost him his place in the England team.
