Julia Obertas is one of the most popular and richest Figure Skater who was born on June 19, 1984 in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. Julia Nikolayevna Obertas, married name: Horak (Russian: Iuliia Nikolaevna Obertas, Ukrainian: Iuliia Obertas ; born 19 June 1984) is an ex-pair skater who was a representative of Ukraine from 2000 onwards and Russia until the final stage in her professional career. Her greatest fame is her team-up along with Sergei Slavnov, with whom she skated from 2003 until 2007. They were in 2005 as European silver medalists in the 2005 European silver. In the past, she played alongside Alexei Sokolov for Russia and Dmytro Palamarchuk in Ukraine. Together with Palamarchuk she was twice (1998-1999) World Junior champion.
Obertas was a new acquaintance of student of Velikovs student, Sergei Slavnov, and in August 2003, they made the decision to skate together. They changed coach to Tamara Moskvina who also worked at Yubileyny.
At the start of the 2006-07 season, Obertas/Slavnov decided to return to Ludmila Velikova. The pair won bronze at 2006 Trophée Eric Bompard and finished 6th at 2006 NHK Trophy. At the 2007 Russian Championships, they won the silver medal and were sent to the 2007 European Championships where they finished 4th. They did not compete at Worlds.
The pair announced they would miss the 2007-08 season as the result of an injury to Obertas. In summer 2008, they said they would miss the start of the 2008-09 season, but might compete at Russian Nationals. In autumn 2008, Obertas participated in the Russia 1 ice show Star Ice (Russian: Звёздный лёд ), skating with the Russian actor Alexander Peskov. Obertas/Slavnov did not compete at Russian nationals and ended their career.
Obertas and Slavnov have been dating from 2002 until the year 2008. In 2010, Obertas married Czech figure skater Radek Horak. After coaching in Italy She and her husband are now coaches the team in Stockholm, Sweden.

Obertas began skating at age 5. She first competed alongside Dmytro Palamarchuk, representing Ukraine. They were winners at both the 1998 as well as 1999 World Junior Championships. They also took home in 1998 as well. Junior Grand Prix Final. They began competing at the level of senior. In the 2000 World Championships, Obertas/Palamarchuk placed 10th after a short program. However, when they skated free Palamarchuk got caught on the edge (right skate) as she performed an overhead lift alongside Obertas and was not injured when she fell, but the head of Palamarchuk was smashed onto the ice. There was no medical attention immediately available at the time of the event at Nice, France. Palamarchuk was laying upon the frozen ice a few minutes before rising and walking away from the ice alone. He then began to lose consciousness and was taken to the hospital. No damage was discovered, but the patient was held overnight to be monitored. The couple broke up shortly thereafter. Obertas relocated to Russia because her mother had been married and the family decided to move to Saint Petersburg.
The summer of 2000 saw Obertas was paired together with Alexei Sokolov and began to represent Russia under the guidance of Ludmila Velikova as well as Nikolai Velikov. They practiced at the Yubileyny skating rink situated in Saint Petersburg. After two fourth-place finish in the Russian Nationals, they won bronze in 2003. They were able to qualify for the 2003 European Championships, where they were fifth. Then, they went on to the 2003 World Championships, where they were eighth.
At the 2004 Skate America, shortly after Tatiana Totmianina’s accident, Obertas fell out of an overhead lift, a hand-to-hand lasso lift, but Slavnov managed to catch her to prevent her head hitting the ice. The pair won silver at the 2005 European Championships and were fifth at the World Championships. During the 2005-06 season, they were fourth at Europeans, and then finished eighth at both the Olympics and Worlds.
