In the beginning of 2013, Lewis played Varsity Cup rugby with the Maties the team from the University of Johannesburg of Lewis his hometown of Stellenbosch. He made an impressive beginning in the tournament with two tries scored in their victory by 29-8 against UJ in the first round of the tournament. He scored another one against UFS Shimlas a week later and then a fourth with Western Cape rivals UCT Ikey Tigers. He started three times and made an appearance on the bench in a regular season which resulted in Maties triumph in every single game to top the table. He was not a substitute during their 16-15 win against NMMU Madibaz in the semi-final and did not get playing duration in the championship, and came in for the last half an hour of a 544 loss in the final against UP Tuks. Lewis made ten appearances in the Western Province Under-21 team in the 2013 Provincial Championship for Under-21s with tries scored with the opposition of Border, Free State and the Leopards. Western Province finished top of the table to be in the play-offs . Lewis joined the team to play the final minutes of normal play in their semi-final game with the Golden Lions. The game ended 34-all, however, Western Province eventually won the match by 44-41 in additional time. Lewis was a substitute who did not play for their win of 3023 against their opponents the Blue Bulls a week later.
At the start of 2014, Lewis was included in Western Province’s Vodacom Cup squad. He made his first class debut on 8 March 2014, as his side beat Boland Cavaliers 16–8. He scored his first senior try a week later in a 7–25 defeat to the Sharks XV, following that up with tries against the Eastern Province Kings and the Border Bulldogs in his next two matches. He started all seven of their matches during the regular season, as well as their quarter final defeat to the Pumas. He played in his third Under-21 Provincial Championship in the second half of 2014, again being a key player for the team by starting eleven of their twelve matches during the regular season. He scored a total of six tries – two in their 90–0 victory over Border U21 in East London, one against the Golden Lions and in the return match against Border in Cape Town, and another two against the Leopards in Potchefstroom – to help Western Province finish top of the log with just one defeat. Lewis started their 41–17 victory over Free State U21 in the semi-final, but could not prevent his team losing in the final, with the Blue Bulls winning 20–10 in Cape Town.
Lewis was included in the Pumas squad for the 2016 Currie Cup Premier Division and named in the starting line-up for their opening match of the competition against the Sharks.
After high school, Lewis joined the Cape Town-based Western Province academy and was the primary left winger of their Under-19 team, which took part in the 2012 Provincial Under-19 Championship. He started thirteen of their 14 matches during the tournament. After scoring a goal at each one of their games with the Golden Lions, Free State and SWD He scored a brace during their final match in the match against The Golden Lions and a hat-trick against the Blue Bulls. The eight tries, which is the second most scored by the Western Province player behind Justin Geduld and fourth overall in the Group A of the tournament – helped Western Province finish top of the table with ten wins over 12 games. Although he did not add to his score during the title play-offs Williams contributed to Western Province to a semi-final victory against their opponents the Golden Lions and a 22-18 victory in the final over their opponents, the Blue Bulls. The only game that Williams did not play in the entire year – the Round 12 game against the Sharks as a result of being a part of his Western Province U21 squad in the 2012 Provincial Championships for Under-21s with a loss against Sharks U21s. Lewis was born in and raised in Stellenbosch. He was a member of Western Province at various youth levels, as young as primary school when he represented them in the 2006 Under-13 Craven Week. He later went to Paul Roos Gymnasium, once again being selected for several times; He was a part of under-16 Grant Khomo Week the year 2009 as well as at the Craven Week the next year. Following 2010, during the Craven Week, he was included in the South Africa Schools team which played against Namibians. Namibian team in Johannesburg. After not featuring in the competition in 2014, Lewis returned to Varsity Cup action with Maties in 2015. He started in all seven of their matches, scoring three tries – two against Western Cape rivals UCT Ikey Tigers and a third against UP Tuks – in a disappointing season for Maties which saw them miss out on a semi-final spot for only the second time in the competition’s history. Despite his side misfiring, Lewis’ performances were noted and he was included in a Varsity Cup Dream Team at the conclusion of the tournament, starting the team’s match against a South Africa Under-20 team that prepared for the 2015 World Rugby Under 20 Championship. Lewis rejoined the Western Province Vodacom Cup squad, but failed to score any tries in his five appearances. He featured in their quarter final victory over the Leopards, but didn’t play in their semi-final win over the Blue Bulls or their final defeat to the Pumas.
