Jon Bowden is one of the most popular and richest English footballer who was born on January 21, 1963 in Stockport, England, United Kingdom. Jonathan Lee Bowden (born 21 January 1963) is an English former footballer. He was a midfielder and played in 405 league matches during his 14-year playing career with the Football League.

The “Dragons” finished 11th in the Fourth Division in 1987-88, however, they were four points short of play-offs. Under the direction of Brian Flynn, Wrexham qualified for the play-offs by finishing seventh in 1988-89, only to be eliminated by Leyton Orient 2-1 in the play-off final. Wrexham fell to 21st place in 1989-1990, a score of eight points, but just three spots over the last club Colchester United. The club was at its lowest in 1990-91, the Bowden’s final campaign on the Racecourse Ground, but still retained their Football League status. Bowden was a part of the 1991 Welsh Cup Final at Cardiff Arms Park that resulted in a 2-0 defeat in the final against Swansea City.

He started his career at Oldham Athletic, before he joined Port Vale for PS5,000 in September 1985. He assisted Port Vale’s “Valiants” to promotion out of the Fourth Division in 1985-86, prior to being sold to Wrexham for PS12,500 in April 1987. He was a player for Wrexham during the Welsh Cup final in 1991 prior to moving to Rochdale. He was forced out of the game because of an Achilles injury. He became a rehabilitation physiotherapist.

Bowden began his career with Oldham Athletic under the management of Joe Royle. Bowden’s “Latics” finished 11th in the Second Division in 1981-82, rising to seventh in 1982-83. They then fell down to 18th during 1983-1984. They were one position but five points better than being relegated Derby County. The team left Boundary Park following a 14th-place finishing in the 1984-85 season.

He signed with Port Vale for PS5,000 in September 1985. He was awe-inspiring in his first appearance at number 10, in a win of 4-1 in Vale Park on 14 September against Cambridge United, and was called the ‘architect of victory’. However, despite his great start, he broke his elbow within three minutes of the final whistle. Following his recovery, he became a regular for the first team in the 85-86 Fourth Division promotion side, scoring three goals in 44 matches as a five-man midfield that included Oshor Williams Geoff Hunter, Robbie Earle along with Paul Maguire. Bowden continued to be a regular in John Rudge’s first-team plan for the Third Division, scoring four goals in 42 matches during 1986-87. But he was sacked of his place in April of 1987 and after three months, he was transferred by the Dixie McNeil’s Wrexham for a price of PS12,500.

Bowden moved on to Rochdale, as the “Dale” finished eighth in 1991–92, one place and two points behind Barnet in the play-offs. They fell to 11th in 1992–93, five points outside the play-offs. Manager Dave Sutton then took Rochdale to a ninth-place finish in 1993–94, four points behind Carlisle United in the play-off zone. The Spotland side then dropped to 15th in 1994–95. However Bowden’s career was ended following an Achilles injury.
