Fahey (born May 11 1979) is an American former professional defenseman in ice hockey playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the San Jose Sharks and the New Jersey Devils. He played with the Krefeld Pinguine of the DEL. He is now the father of two children and a wife who lives in East Walpole, Massachusetts.

In 2004, Fahey suffered from pneumonia and after scoring only two points in 15 games, was sent to Cleveland and continued to play for the rest of the season. He has only seen sporadic NHL duty ever since.

On July 27, 2007, Fahey signed with the Chicago Blackhawks and spent the full year with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. On March 26, 2008, Fahey signed with German team, the Krefeld Pinguine of the DEL.

On July 6, 2010, after two seasons with Krefeld, Fahey signed a one-year contract with fellow DEL team, Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers. However, only three weeks later on July 24, Fahey terminated his agreement with the Ice Tigers due to personal reasons and remained in America.

After his college days in 2003 following a stint playing with the San Jose Sharks’ AHL farming squad at Cleveland, Fahey was recalled to the Sharks and was named as San Jose’s rookie of year. Although he spent nearly the entire time in the junior leagues Fahey was the top rookie NHL defensemen in scoring.

Fahey was selected in the 8th round, which was 212th overall and 212th overall with the San Jose Sharks in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Before becoming a professional athlete, Jim played for the Dorchester, MA (Greater Boston Youth Hockey League), Tier 2 National Championship Midget Team in 1996. He then became an outstanding player in the ranks of Catholic Memorial High School, receiving MVP awards and the school won four consecutive state championships. Jim was an all-star in the ranks of Northeastern University, where he completed his career with a single-season defense scoring record of the Huskies as the team’s first Team All-American as well as a Hobey Baker Award winner. The year he was drafted the team was featured in a segment featuring the man he idolized, Raymond Bourque, in an episode of NHL on Fox.

Fahey re-signed to a one-year contract worth US$500,000; on July 15, 2006. Prior to the 2006–07 NHL season, Fahey was traded with Alexander Korolyuk to the New Jersey Devils for Vladimir Malakhov and a conditional first round pick.
