Jerry Azumah (/@ Jerry Azumah (/@)’z u: @ / @-ZOO-mat; born on September 1st 1977) is an ex- American soccer cornerback, who played for seven seasons with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played in the NCAA football tournament for at the University of New Hampshire, and was picked to the Bears in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft.
Azumah who played running back in the college and continued to progress to becoming an NFL defensive back. While his NFL experience developed and he was also able to play on special teams as well as special circumstances in defense. In 2001, Azumah was offered an extension to his contract. On the 19th of January 2002, in the divisional playoff game against The Philadelphia Eagles, Azumah intercepted then quarterback Donovan McNabb and returned the ball 39 yards to score an touchdown. This was the final score scored at Soldier Field.
In 2004 Azumah started the Azumah Student Assistance Program (ASAP). ASAP is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization and provides scholarships for disadvantaged students that attend private, secondary education. The program helps students in both Massachusetts and Illinois.
In his college playing career, Azumah set the Division I-AA career rushing record with 6,193 yards. He also set the Division I-AA record with 8,276 career all-purpose yards. In 2005 Azumah was inducted into the New Hampshire Wildcats Athletic Council Hall of Fame.
Azumah was elected an official board member for the University of New Hampshire Foundation in 2001. The Foundation creates private support for the University of New Hampshire. It was in the summer of 2003 that Azumah gave a six-figure donation to the Foundation which was given to the athletic department of the university. In 2003, the Jerry Azumah Performance Center was the direct result of his donation. At the age of 25 Azumah was the youngest UNH alumni to make an amount of more than $100,000.

Azumah was picked to be selected by the Chicago Bears as the 147th selection of the 1999 NFL Draft out of the University of New Hampshire. Azumah’s debut season as a member of the Chicago Bears, he won the famous Brian Piccolo Award. The award is presented to an individual Chicago Bear by his teammates. Brian Piccolo played four seasons as a running defender for the Chicago Bears from 1965-1968. Piccolo passed away from cancer in the year 1970 at the age of twenty-six years of age. In 2004, Azumah was selected to represent the NFC in the NFL Pro Bowl as a kick returner. In that game Azumah broke the record for return yards with 228. He also recovered a fumble.
