At the age of 10, she made her debut in single-seater racing in the Philippines with the National Karting Series. She participated in the Asia-Pacific Karting Championships Japan and Shell Super Karting Series as well as the Asian Karting Open Championships (AKOC) and the Italian Masters Series.
She participated in five rounds of John Walko Racing’s 2008 Star Mazda Championship season. She finished 15th in her last start at Portland International Raceway.
In 2014, Michelle joined the Pro Mazda Championship full-time, racing for World Speed Motorsports Team.

Bumgarner’s auto racing debut was in 2006, when she drove in the Asian Formula Three Championship. She finished third in the Promotion Class.
