In 2008, he moved to Potchefstroom where he joined the Leopards and university side NWU Pukke. He played for the Leopards U19 side in 2008 and for the Leopards U21 side in 2009 and 2010.
He made his first class debut for the Leopards during the 2010 Currie Cup Premier Division. Although he was an unused substitute in their match against Griquas, his debut came two weeks later in their match against the Sharks in Durban.
He represented the Golden Lions at the Under–18 Academy Week competition in 2006 and the Under–18 Craven Week competition in 2007, which also resulted in his inclusion in the South African Schools squad in the same year.
