Helen Lesley Upperton, a Canadian bobsledder, was born October 31, 1979 and has been competing since 2002. Upperton was born Ahmadi, Kuwait. Her parents were involved in the oil industry and so she traveled to other countries. She is dual Canadian and British citizen. Upperton was awarded the silver medal at 2010 Winter Olympics. She had previously finished fourth in the two woman event at 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. She attended Dr. E.P. High School. Scarlett High School

Upperton and Brown announced that they would be retiring from the sport in September 2012. Upperton was appointed manager of WinSport Canada’s community relations after she retired. She was then appointed head coach for the bobsleigh program at WinSport Academy, where she trained and developed bobsledders.

Shelley Ann Brown and Shelllie Humphries won her a silver medal in the Two woman competition at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Heather Moyse and Kaillie Humphries, both from Canada, won the gold medal. This was the first Olympic Games in which Canadians have won two medals in the same event.

Upperton, a former triple jumper at University of Texas at Austin moved to bobsleigh when she was 22 years old. She won four medals at the World Cup in 2005-06, including a gold in St. Moritz (Switzerland), which was Canada’s first win in bobsleigh. She finished fourth in the women’s two-woman event at 2006 Winter Olympics a month later. Upperton won six of the World Cup competition’s top prizes and finished on the podium more than 20 times.

Upperton also participated in the FIBT world championships. Her best finish was fourth in Altenberg’s two-woman event in 2008. In the 2005-06 season, Upperton was second in the two woman event. This was her best overall Bobsleigh World Cup finish.

Upperton was a commentator for men’s and women’s bobsleigh and skeleton at the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2018 Winter Olympics with Mark Connolly.
