During his National Hockey League (NHL), career, he played for the Canucks as well as the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs. He also played professionally for EHC Basel in Switzerland. Druken spent the majority of his professional career with minor league affiliates of the American Hockey League (AHL), Hurricanes, Canucks, and Maple Leafs.
After Druken’s 30-point breakout season the previous year, he sustained an ankle injury in a game against Colorado on November 30, 2001. He missed most of 2001-02. Druken was only able to play in 27 games and scored 8 points. He was also sent to the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, Manitoba Moose for 11 games. There, he scored two goals and assisted nine times.
In 2005–06, Druken went overseas to Switzerland to play for EHC Basel of the Nationalliga A, but appeared in only 18 games, registering 10 points.
Druken was a Canucks’ International Hockey League affiliate, the Kansas City Blades. However, Druken spent most of the campaign with Canucks. He played in a record 55 NHL games, scored 15 goals, and had 30 points. His hat-trick against the San Jose Sharks on December 8, 2000 was his best performance. Druken broke a 13-goal drought in the second half of the season by scoring two goals against the Los Angeles Kings on April 6, 2001. His second goal of overtime was scored just outside of the crease. This secured a 3-2 win for Druken and the Canucks’ Stanley Cup playoff spot. The Canucks were the eighth and final seed of the Western Conference, and were defeated by the Colorado Avalanche in the first round. Druken was the only NHL player to make it to the playoffs in his career, providing one assist.

After his OHL rookie season, Druken was drafted 36th by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. In 1999-2000, Druken became a professional hockey player and split his season between the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. He was awarded AHL All-Rookie honors for his 45 points in 47 games played by the Crunch. In addition, he also appeared in 33 games in Vancouver and scored 7 goals.
Druken was a high school hockey player in the US, playing for Noble & Greenough School Dedham, MA. Druken had a three-year prolific Ontario Hockey League (OHL), career with the Detroit/Plymouth Whalers team. He was also named to the OHL All-Rookie Team 1997 and the OHL Second All-Star Team 1999. He was seventh in league scoring with a 58-goal,103-point OHL season. He represented Canada at 1999 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. There he received a silver medal.
The injury seemingly derailed Druken’s NHL career as he was subsequently bounced around the NHL for the next several seasons in a series of transactions. On November 1, 2002, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes (along with forward Jan Hlaváč) in exchange for defenceman Marek Malík and forward Darren Langdon. On December 11, 2002, he was placed on waivers by the Hurricanes, after which he was picked up by the Toronto Maple Leafs. A month later, he was waived once again and was re-acquired by the Hurricanes on January 17, 2003. Druken played the remainder of the season for the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, the Lowell Lock Monsters, then was traded back to the Maple Leafs in the off-season on May 29, 2003, in exchange for defenceman Allan Rourke. With the exception of nine games with the Maple Leafs in 2003–04, Druken spent the rest of his North American professional career in the minor leagues with the St. John’s Maple Leafs with 51- and 38-point seasons in 2003–04 and 2004–05 respectively.
