Price was prop in record-breaking 12 consecutive tests in the British and Irish Lions, touring New Zealand in 1977. The frontline during the tour was led by “Viet Gwent” players, which included Price. When he played a test match against Australia Price was struck with fractured jaws after being hit with an attack by Steve Finanne. Price was forced to consume liquid foods for six weeks and then wore dentures for the next 40 years, until they were replaced with implants in the year 2015. The South African returned to South Africa in 1980 and played his last international match in New Zealand in 1983 at 31. He was a part of every game during the three international tours. He has a record 12 times as an assistant to the British and Irish Lions is not expected to be broken.

Graham Price MBE (born 24 November 1951 in Moascar, Egypt) is a former Welsh union rugby player who was part of the renowned Pontypool RFC front row known as the “Viet Gwent”. He was a 41-time captain for Wales and a record number of caps with the British and Irish Lions as a prop forward.

He made his debut for the Wales the national team of rugby union during the 1974 Five Nations Championship against France at the Parc des Princes in Paris. The game was played with six players who were awarded their first caps, as well as the whole Pontypool forward line. The ball was kicked to the side about 3m (9.8 feet) away from the French line after an offensive by the Welsh counter-attack, Price caught the ball when it bounced, and ran into the goal for a score. Wales were victorious by 25-10, their largest win against French since the French ever since 1909; the score was later voted as the fourth most successful try by any Welsh player. Grand Slams were also won by this Wales team in the years 1976 and 1978.
