Aided by an injury to the established lock Michael Allardice, Cridge stepped up to join Hurricanes teammates, Mark Abbott in the Magpies second row. He was involved in all of Hawke’s bay’s games in the 2016 season and scored two tries, but this wasn’t enough to prevent them from being sent back into the Mitre 10 Cup Championship division in 2017 as they were last on the Premiership report with only two wins in 10 games.
