Szabo is famous by the incident she collided with Ghanaian athlete Kofi Amoah Prah at an indoor race in Stuttgart during 2001. Szabo was heading off on the field after the race had ended, and Amoah was training to try his luck. Amoah crashed into Szabo and crashed on top of her while Szabo’s legs were stretched due to the impact.
Szabo was a triple world champion. Through her entire career, she was guided by Zsolt Gyongyossy. Gyongyossy was the one she eventually got married. In May 2005, she resigned from competitions because of exhaustion. She is still as the European record holder at 3000 meters.
