September played a bit of youth rugby for his provincial team, Boland. He was a part of their Under-18 team in their 2003 Academy Week competition and their Under-19 team at the 2005 Under-19 Provincial Championship. He was not able to progress into the senior team and instead played for club rugby with Roses United, also representing Roses United in their National Club Championships in 2006.
