Emeel Salem is one of the most popular and richest American baseball athlete who was born on February 11, 1985 in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. Emeel Badie Salem Emeel Badie Salem Jr. (born on the 11th of February 1985, in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American professional baseball outfielder who is free agent. He is a left-handed bat and thrower and plays mainly in the center field. Salem was a student at his time at the University of Alabama from 2004 to 2007 and won numerous distinctions while playing on the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team. The team also rewarded him for his accomplishments as a student athlete, such as being the first baseball player to receive the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in 2007 after having the 3.85 percentage point grade during the time of his freshman year until his senior year in college. Salem was selected as an undergraduate during his time at The University of Alabama in the 10th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft by the Baltimore Orioles, but opted to stay on for the final season of his career. Following his final year the team was drafted in the 6th round of the Tampa Bay Rays, signing an official contract in June 2007. He’s played primarily center field, but Salem has also played in right field and left field, and designated hitter.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays (now also known as Tampa Bay Rays) (now known as Tampa Bay Rays) drafted Salem in the 6th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. Salem started playing professionally with the Class A The Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades. While with the Renegades they was batting .311 which included 41 RBI 70 hits and 11 doubles. He also had seven triples and one home run. He also had 23 batted-in runs (RBIs) as well as 28 stolen bases over the 58 games. Salem was second place in the New York – Penn League in triples, and 3rd in steal bases. He was named as a member of make the New York – Penn League All-Star team following the season. The year 2008 was the last time Salem played the whole season playing for the class-A Columbus Catfish. In April they Tampa Bay Rays named Salem as the Player of the Month in their minor league division. The 16th of May, 2008 Salem was put on the disabled list following his elbow was broken after sliding head-first into the second base. The injury ended his season and he spent the remainder of the season recovering at the Naimoli Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida. Through 38 contests, Salem batted .301 with 26 hits, 24 runs with four doubles, seven RBIs, three triples and 25 bases stolen. Salem started his 2009 season playing for the Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs. In the 2009 year, Salem batted .255 with 54 runs and 91 hits. He also had seven triples, 12 doubles 22 RBIs and 24 bases stolen in 99 games. Salem led the team in triples. Salem played in the 2009 season for the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits and also spent time with the Triple-A Durham Bulls that same season. The year before, he slugged .260 including 24 doubles and four home runs, and 23 stolen bases, and was named as a Southern League mid-season All-Star. Prior to his senior season in 2007 Salem was selected in 2007 to the Brooks Wallace Award and Dick Howser Trophy list of watchlists. Salem has also been named a preseason All-American through the College Baseball Foundation, Rivals.com and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. In regards to his academic achievements, Salem commented, “I really do take pride in my grades…When a lot of guys go out, I’m in the library studying. So, I definitely make the sacrifices.” On the 22nd day of his birth, Salem hit two home runs in his two first at-bats with Georgia State University. In 2007 Salem was chosen for consideration by his alma mater, the University of Alabama for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship . He also received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. This is the most prestigious award offered from the University of Alabama. He was awarded the award with an 3.85 GPA final grade. He later was awarded the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Scholarship which was presented by the SEC at its Annual SEC Spring Meeting at Destin, Florida, on May 31, 2007. The 17th of April, 2007 it was reported that Salem together with 30 other players from college baseball were the finalist in the competition for Lowe’s Senior Class Award. Salem was selected to ESPN’s First-Team Academic All American Team which was his second consecutive year that he has received this honor. Salem received an inaugural Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award after beating out 29 other finalist. Salem was selected on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American Team following 2007. The 2007 season, his last in Alabama, Salem batted .351 with an 81-hit, 61-run 7 doubles, 3 triples and seven home runs. He also had 32 RBIs along with 23 steal bases over the course of 57 games.

Salem was a student at Mountain Brook High School in Mountain Brook, Alabama and later, the University of Alabama. In his first year in Alabama, Salem batted .304 with 16 runs 21 hits and two doubles. He also hit a home run 11 runs batted into (RBIs) as well as five stolen bases over 41 games. As of 2005, his second season was averaging .277 and scored 31 RBIs 56 hits and four doubles. He also had 13 triples and 14 RBIs 13 bases stolen and seven stolen bases during 59 of his games. Salem was a part of the Cape Cod League following his second season in the year 2005.
The 1st of May, 2006 during his junior year, Salem was awarded the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week award by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and received the honor of being named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Week. At the conclusion of the season Salem was named with the Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Award, as decided by 12 SEC coach heads. In May 23rd the 23rd of May, 2006. Salem was double-majoring on marketing as well as Spanish and maintained an average of 3.9 grade points average. As of 2006 Salem got selected for first-team ESPN Academic All- American, First-Team All-American (American Baseball Coaches Association) and was named to the First-Team All SEC team.
