Chris Bassitt is one of the most popular and richest American baseball athlete who was born on February 22, 1989 in Curtice, Ohio, United States. Christopher M. Bassitt (born on February 22, 1989) is an American professional baseball player who plays for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). His MLB debut in the Chicago White Sox in 2014. Before he made the jump to professional baseball the team, he played for his teams of baseball and basketball in Genoa Area High School and the University of Akron.
After the 2014 seasonended, they White Sox traded Bassitt, Josh Phegley, Marcus Semien along with Rangel Ravelo, to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa. Bassitt started the 2014 season playing for Nashville Sounds. Nashville Sounds of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League, and was promoted to the major leagues on the 23rd of April. With 18 appearances (13 games played), Bassitt finished 1-8 with an 3.56 ERA.
Bassitt broke his right hand prior to the 2014 season. He made three rehabilitative appearances with the Arizona White Sox of the Rookie-level Arizona League, before returning to Birmingham on July 29. He had a 3–1 record and a 1.56 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 34 ⁄3 innings for Birmingham.
Bassitt’s 2016 season became short-lived after 5 starts with a 0-2 record and a 6.11 ERA. On May 5, 2016, it was announced that Bassitt would undergo Tommy John surgery, putting him aside for the rest of 2016. He missed more than half of the 2017 season while recovering from surgery. He was recalled on June 9, 2018 to the A’s rotation, his first start in 2 years. He was sent down and back up to the Majors in the following 2 weeks. On March 26, 2019, Bassitt was placed on the disabled list with a leg injury. Bassitt finished the season with a record of 10-5 in 28 games (25 starts). He struck out 141 batters in 144 innings.
The Chicago White Sox selected Bassitt in the 16th round of 2011. MLB draft, and was the 501st overall pick. Bassitt was signed by the White Sox, and was assigned to the Bristol White Sox of the Rookie-level Appalachian League to begin his professional career. The year 2013 saw him started his season with the Winston-Salem Dash of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League. There, he was named an All-Star. He was elevated to join the Birmingham Barons of the Class AA Southern League, and scored two wins in the Southern League playoffs. After serving as an assistant pitcher for the majority of his career The White Sox used Bassitt as the starting pitcher in 2013. Bassitt had pitched to a win- loss record of 11-4 and having a 3.08 ERA, and 138 strikeouts over 26 games, which started with Birmingham. Following the season, it was the White Sox assigned him to the Arizona Fall League (AFL) which was where pitched as a relief pitcher to Glendale Desert Dogs. Glendale Desert Dogs. Bassitt was a student at Genoa Area High School in Genoa, Ohio, where he was a part of the school’s basketball and baseball teams. At the end of his junior year, Bassitt was named to the All-Suburban Lakes League first team in both sports. He was an 1.56 earned run-adjusted (ERA) of 65 struck out over 56 innings pitched by the baseball team in 2007 during the year he graduated from high school.
Bassitt was a student at high school to play basketball at a collegiate level. He enrolled at Akron’s University of Akron, where was a college baseball player with the Akron Zips baseball team, participating with the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Bassitt was a redshirted player in the first season at Akron. As an unofficial freshman, Bassitt served as the Zips closer. The pitcher had a 1-2 loss-win record with an impressive 3.52 ERA, and seven saves. The sophomore season, Bassitt pitched only one game, while he was focusing on his studies. In 2011 in his junior year Bassitt pitched to an 1.42 ERA and limited opposing batters to the .183 batters’ average. Bassitt was named on the All-MAC second team.
On August 30, 2014, Bassitt made his major league debut in a start against the Detroit Tigers. He had a 3.94 ERA in six appearances with the White Sox. After the regular season, the White Sox assigned Bassitt to Glendale of the AFL, where he had a 0.69 ERA in 13 innings, striking out 22 batters while walking only three.
