William Chester Dawley (born February 6 1958) is a famous American ex-professional baseball player. Dawley played the entirety or a portion of seven seasons of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1983 until 1989, with the Houston Astros, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Oakland Athletics. Dawley was primarily an reliever during his time in the major leagues and appeared in more than 275 games as a relief pitcher.
In 1989, prior to the start of the campaign, Dawley signed a minor league contract with Oakland. The season began as a member of Tacoma Tigers. Tacoma Tigers, where he made a return to the majors with 3-1 that included 3 saved inning and 2.56 ERA along with 44 strikeouts over 38.2 minutes pitched. The season began with two defeats in his initial five games, registering the ERA that was 17.05 before being moved to the minors the middle of May. He played the majority of the 1988 with the Minor League Maine Phillies before returning to the majors in September however, he only appeared in three more gamesand was released once more.

Dawley was chosen from Griswold High School in the seventh round of the 1976 Major League Baseball Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. In the following six seasons, he made to progress through the Reds farm system as a starter pitcher, and pitched a lot as a relief pitcher until the year 1980 for his team, the Indianapolis Indians. When spring training began in 1983, he was dealt to the Astros along with the infielder Tony Walker in exchange for the backup catcher Alan Knicely.
When he was in 1984 Dawley achieved career-highs in a variety of categories, finishing 11-4 and registering an 1.93 ERA. But he was never able to match the level of success he had achieved in the previous two seasons. After falling to a 5-3 record with an 3.56 ERA in 1985, He was let go at the close of the spring training season in 1986. He was signed by the White Sox, and although his ERA increased to 3.32 however, he was unable to take a victory in a game, going just 0-7, with only 2 saves.
Dawley made the Astros roster out of spring training as a relief pitcher. Despite having little experience out of the bullpen, Dawley got off to a great start, being chosen for and playing in the All-Star Game after going 5–2 with a 1.88 earned-run average before the All-Star break. Dawley finished his rookie season with a 6–6 record and a 2.82 ERA and 14 saves.
